Troiani announces bid for Congress
Anthony Troiani has announced his candidacy to the 2012 Democratic Party’s nomination to Texas’ 27th Congressional District seat.
"I am running for Congress to bring good government," said Troiani, a former city commissioner who served Brownsville from 2007-2011.
"We need a change from the business as usual," Troiani added in his written announcement.
"My focus is to create jobs, improve South Texas infrastructure, port capacity, energy production and educational opportunities while protecting those who have served and continue to serve our nation," Troiani said.
Troiani, an attorney in private practice, served as an U.S. Marine, attaining the rank of corporal. He attended the South Texas College of Law, Universitat de Barcelona and the University of Houston.
He also served as prosecutor with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office.
Troiani said that as city commissioner, he was instrumental in obtaining a reversionary clause during the negotiations over the border wall and that because of these efforts, the city is the only one along the U.S.-Mexico border to have the ability to remove and replace the wall.
Troiani said that having already defended the community against attacks from Washington, D.C., he is ready to represent South Texas as a strong and outspoken voice.
A strong Democrat, Troiani said he believes in economic development such as increased international trade zones and infrastructure development projects like the I-69 corridor. He also believes in the need for a strong government to bring economic attention to small businesses and the working class.
"South Texas has the resource potential to become a leader in the world economy," Troiani said.
He also believes in supporting America’s troops by guaranteeing them the benefits they earned by putting their lives on the line when they were called to duty.
Troiani serves on the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Restoration and Finance committees, the Brownsville Community Improvement Corp., and supports local charities. He also has served on United Brownsville and Planned Parenthood of Cameron and Willacy counties.
He is the father of an 11-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.
