Jury selected in capital murder trial

Attorneys completed jury selection Monday in a capital murder trial for the 2006 slaying of a man on South Padre Island.

Dennis Wayne Capps, 58, is accused of killing 43-year-old Brian Aldrich, whose body was discovered by Cameron County Park Rangers in June of 2006 just north of Beach Access Point No. 5.

Opening arguments in the trial are scheduled for next week.

The trial comes almost six years after Aldrich’s death and Capps’ subsequent flee from justice.

Capps was arrested in December 2006 but was released in June 2007 after posting a $100,000 bond. He failed to appear at a hearing in October of that year and was later placed on the Texas Ten Most Wanted List.

Capps was arrested in Nicaragua in October of 2009 and returned to the United States where he has been held in the Cameron County Jail without bail.

The jury trial will be in the 107th state district court under state District Judge Benjamin Euresti Jr.
