Trial in East Texas sex club case postponed
TYLER, Texas (AP) - A judge has postponed the trial of a man accused of helping run an East Texas swingers club where children allegedly performed sex shows for adults.
Attorneys for Patrick Kelly said a judge Monday granted their request to push back the trial so that new allegations against the children's foster dad can be investigated.
John Cantrell was charged in California last week with sexually assaulting a foster child in 1990. Margie Cantrell, his wife, has said the allegations are untrue.
The Cantrells are potential state witnesses in the trial of Kelly, who faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and other charges.
Thad Davidson, Kelly's attorney, said the start of the trial was rescheduled for June 30.
Davidson said state District Judge Jack Skeen Jr. also granted a change of venue hearing for Friday.
