No good reason for national health care

Editor:
Americans who do not support President Barack Obama’s nationalized health care plan are selfish, rich racists. Don’t they get it? If we would give complete control over every aspect of our health care to the government, we would all live in peace, harmony and perfect health. And all for free!
That’s what the president and his supporters would have us believe. How can people be so naive?
Can anyone supporting the health care plan give me one good reason to support it? Just one?
Nearly everyone will be covered. But that is because we will be forced to. (Isn’t it great living in a free country?)
For those who can’t afford health care, that’s no problem. Taxpayers will pick up the tab.
As a self-employed couple, my husband and I have a high-deductible insurance plan that covers ourselves and our five children — for under $300 per month. We are blessed with good health and healthy children. We have coverage in case we have any major health issues. But we pay for our own regular doctor visits when we need them, which is once or twice a year at the most.
We have a tax-deductible health savings account that allows us to save our own money for health care expenses. It’s the perfect solution for a healthy, young family.
But under the new health care plan, these high-deductible plans would not be allowed. We would be forced to pay high premiums for full-coverage insurance. That is something we simply cannot afford.
So thanks to the president, the self-employed will go broke. Small businesses will go broke. The government will get itself into even more debt.
All so we can have a health care system that is run like the Department of Motor Vehicles. No thanks.

Thanks to mailman who helped father

Editor:
On Sept. 30 my dad was cutting down a palm tree with a chainsaw. He was 77 years old. When he sat down to take a break, he had a heart attack.
Our mailman Steven Hampton was passing by and noticed that when he waved at my dad he did not respond. Immediately he went into the yard and started CPR on my dad. He asked our neighbor Yolanda to call 911; she also had crossed the street to check on my dad.
Steven continued CPR until the EMS personnel arrived.
I am proud to say our mailman did a tremendous job trying to save my dad. Unfortunately it was too late and my dad passed away that morning, sitting on my front porch bench.
Steven came by the next day and placed our U.S. flag at half staff. He saluted the flag and instructed me on how to retire the flag or continue using it. I have continued my dad’s ritual of putting the U.S. flag up every morning and bringing it down come evening hours.
My family would like thank Steven one more time for his help.
