State Rep. Kino Flores indicted
AUSTIN – State Rep. Ismael “Kino” Flores was indicted Friday for failing to disclose more than $847,000 in personal assets on his state-mandated financial disclosure forms.
In a series of six indictments, Travis County prosecutors allege the Palmview Democrat hid sources of income, gifts received, real estate holdings and the sales of certain properties on the documents he is required to file each year as a state lawmaker.
The charges cover a period between 2004 and 2009. One count also alleges he failed to report income a dependant child received from an Austin lobbying firm.
Flores, a 12-year incumbent, now faces 16 counts of tampering with a government record and three counts of perjury.
The lawmaker declined to comment when reached by phone Friday afternoon. He said his office would release a statement by the end of the day.
If convicted on all counts, Flores could face up to two years in a state jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
The Monitor reported in November that 14 sections of Flores' February 2008 form - which covers activity in fiscal year 2007 - were never submitted, including pages related to gifts, assets and interests he held in common with lobbyists.
