Los Fresnos school board trustees ousted
The Los Fresnos school board is going to see some changes.
Martin Castillo and Juan Carlos Sierra ousted the incumbents Eddie Abrego and Jackie Kyger.
Castillo, a driver for a children’s rehabilitation clinic and a newcomer to the political arena, had a narrow victory for the Place 1 seat.
Castillo with 677 votes (50.04 percent) said he was shocked and elated about his narrow victory over Abrego, who had 666 votes (49.96 percent).
“I am still trying to process this,” he said.
Eddie Abrego, who was formerly the longest sitting board member, could not be reached for comment.
In the Place 2 race, mortician Juan Carlos Sierra defeated school board Vice President Jackie Kyger.
Sierra secured the victory with 692 votes (50.81 percent) leaving Kyger with 670 votes (49.19 percent).
Sierra served as city alderman in 2000.
Sierra and Kyger could not be reached for comment.
