Museum praised for current exhibit

February 11, 2005 I congratulate the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art for its excellent first exhibit of the year.
Jiten Hazarika created most of the artwork in this exhibit during the few months he spent here visiting his family. This is his first exhibit in the United States. His slide show presentation and his productivity are truly inspiring.
I invite all residents and visitors alike to experience his art, which will be on display until Feb. 11.

Official should chose whom he represents

The bridge of trust has not been rebuilt at our port; $21.4 million of tax money has been lost. Where is it? The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, or in someones bank account?
Some $144,000 were paid to our senator, who already receives money as a public servant to our area.
Top-notch investigative reporters Emma P. Trevio and Elizabeth Pierson revealed questionable dealings in Austin by our senator, which brings a dark, painful view of our politicians.
A chain of fools article by capable managing editor Carlos Rodriguez needs to be enlarged to include the latest culprits from Willacy County, besides former Hidalgo County Judge J. Edgar Ruiz, former Hidalgo County Sheriff Brig Marmolejo and former Cameron County Commissioner Tivie Valencia. Maybe more will be added soon.
Our senator says the self-convicted Willacy County officials are good people. Our judge says Lucios client-companies are good companies when they have may have bribed Willacy County officials. I say these top construction firms are also the top cheater companies in the state.
It is completely wrong and unethical to be a servant to two masters. Mr. Lucio, you are either our representative, or leave the job and accept questionable money from shady companies.
As revealed, our senator has received more than $110,000 from at least four questionable, suspicious compadre companies. The CorPlan Co. has been Lucios client for the past three years at $25,000 per year you add it up. Questionable?
If a senators state pay is not enough, then our senator needs to opt out for another job. Dont double-dip!
These dubious dealings are unethical, carry a semblance of impropriety, suspicious favoritism and manipulation of our public-servant system.
I am sure our senator does not have expertise in wharf design, cargo tonnage, seagoing vessels, port construction, bridge design, international marketing, shipbuilding, etc.
Why did Brownsville Navigation District officials pay Lucio $144,000, when his job as a public official is to lure business to our port? What say you?
Our senator should devote his time to enact a tough, strict code of ethics for all public officials and himself.
If teacher-politicians do questionable deals, imagine an astute lawyer-politician as our representative.
The U.S. attorney should come to Cameron County to study the political undertakings by our politicians.
