Lockdown lifted at Hanna High School

A student at Homer Hanna High School was taken into custody Friday at his home after he was linked to a bomb threat made to the school earlier in the day.

Rafael Perez, 17, was detained sometime after 9:30 a.m. at his residence, officials said.

Perez was taken to the Brownsville City Jail and booked on one count of terroristic threat.

It was not immediately known if he would face any disciplinary action at school.

The campus was placed on a soft lockdown at 9:15 a.m. Friday after the administration received a verbal tip, said Drue Brown, spokeswoman for the Brownsville Independent School District.

The lockdown was lifted at 9:40 a.m. after BISD police searched the school and determined the threat was a false alarm, Brown said.

A search of Perez’s residence turned up nothing, officials said.

Letters were to be sent home with students to inform the parents of what occurred on campus, Brown said.
