CBP seizes cocaine, arrests one
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $371,000 worth of cocaine at the Gateway International Bridge and arrested one man, according to court records.
Jesus Sandoval, 33, of Dallas, was arrested Monday afternoon by CBP and later charged by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with possession of a controlled substance, court records show.
On Tuesday morning, Sandoval went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan who ordered he be held without bail.
Sandoval was arrested when he drove a maroon Dodge Durango to an immigration booth and was referred to a secondary inspection area, records show.
During a secondary inspection officers said they discovered 10 packages of cocaine weighing 11.6 pounds hidden in the firewall of the SUV.
Sandoval and his passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Mesquite, were turned over to ICE agents. The woman was not charged.
Sandoval is being held at the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.
