WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Federal Aviation Administration has accused American Airlines of safety and drug-testing violations.

The agency says the Fort Worth, Texas-based airlines returned two aircraft into service after pilots reported safety problems. The FAA says two MD-83 airliners were flown 58 times in violation of federal safety regulations.

The FAA also cited the airline for deficiencies in its drug and alcohol testing programs.
