Dolly causes significant damage in Rio Hondo

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

RIO HONDO - Damage to this tiny community was anything but small.

Farm-to-Market Road 106 that runs through the middle of Rio Hondo was under several feet of water around noon Thursday.

Cars were stranded in the middle of the road as trucks and high-profile vehicles treaded the murky waters.

Uprooted trees and large branches littered neighborhood streets as residents attempted early cleanup efforts. City officials said they were in the process of having power restored before major cleanup can take place.

Some residents came home to find nearly all the trees in their yard either toppled over or heavily damaged. Others made small trenches from their yards to the street to remove standing water.

East of Rio Hondo, North Nelson Road was flooded and power lines on the east side of the road were down.

At the Port of Harlingen, one of three grain elevators was damaged. The cone-shaped top was blow away and the metal walls were bent like an aluminum beer can.
