BISD asset placed on lockdown Tuesday
A Brownsville Independent School District property went on lockdown briefly Tuesday morning because of police activity in the area, a school spokesperson said.
The BISD property on Palm Boulevard that includes the central administrative building, Sams Stadium and the Clearwater campus that houses the Brownsville Learning Academy and the Brownsville Early College High School were locked down between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The action affected about 300 students.
Brownsville police spokesman J.J. Trevino said he could not say for sure what police action caused the lock-down, but police were searching for a suspect in the morning connected to an auto theft in the area, around West Jefferson Street.
Police apprehended the suspect and recovered the car, he said.
