Symphony in the Park

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The 10th annual Symphony in the Park and All that Jazz benefit concert, "A World of Music," will be held on Saturday at University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College at 6 p.m.

The Rio Bravo Wind Symphony, the UTB-TSC Master Chorale, and the One O'Clock Jazz Band will perform to raise funds for the Brownsville Literacy Center's Be a Hero for Literacy annual campaign.

"Symphony in the Park is a wonderful opportunity for our community to unite and enjoy our local talent while supporting an incredibly important cause such as literacy in Brownsville," said Jaime A. Arriaga, the event chairperson. "It is certainly a treat, especially for our children, to be able to enjoy such an event."

Patrons of the event are encouraged to come with blankets and picnic food for an outdoor meal before and during the concert, for a general admission cost of $5. Refreshments will also be available for purchase during the event.

Lawn chair seating is available for $10 and reserved table and chair seating for $20. For $100, patrons can attend the Be a Hero for Literacy 2008 Gala, held on the veranda of the Student Union during the concert performance, where cocktails and a gourmet dinner will be served and a silent auction will be held.

For more information, call the Brownsville Literacy Center at (956) 542-8080.
