 Celia Alejandro

Celia Alejandro, 94, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, surrounded by her loving family.

She had lived in Kenedy, Texas most of her life and had recently been living in Brownsville, Texas.

Mrs. Alejandro is survived by two daughters, Amalia Ybañez (Richard) and Amelia Ortiz (Dan); a son, state District Judge Leonel Alejandro (Christine); a sister, Claudia Davila; a brother, Guadalupe Guerra; five grandchildren, Beatrice Carlos, Rick Ortiz, Liz Harris, Terri Cristiano and Leonel Alejandro Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Visitation and a rosary at 7 p.m. are scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2008 at Eckols Funeral Home, 420 W. Live Oak St., Kenedy, Texas (830) 583-2533.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy, Texas.

Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Joe I. Treviño, Garza Memorial Funeral Home, 1025 Jackson St., (956) 542-5511.

Evangelina G. Fuentes

Evangelina G. Fuentes, 88, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother entered into the glory of her eternal life on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on April 2, 1920, the daughter of Marcelino Gonzalez and Paula Cepeda de Gonzalez. In 1938, she married Arturo Fuentes Garcia, who preceded her into eternal glory together with a granddaughter, Marisol Fuentes, her son-in-law, Walterio Azuela, two sisters and four brothers.

Her great devotion to the Catholic Church called her to serve in different ministries in Matamoros and she continued her apostleship in Brownsville as a member of St. Luke's Parish for many years.

Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her children: Martha F. (Ruben S.) Garcia, Arturo (Maria Elena) Fuentes, Sylvia (Walterio+) Azuela, Enrique Fuentes, Georgina (Jorge) Gomez, and Laura Esthela Fuentes; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister, Olivia G. de Garza Cantu, and numerous other loving family members.

Visitation and a rosary service were held Wednesday at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Visitation will resume at 11 a.m. today, Friday, July 11, 2008, in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, July 11, at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Evangelina's family members are honored to be serving as her pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and other members of the family.

 AGUSTIN HERNANDEZ ALEMAN, 72, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Memorial City Hospital in Houston. Funeral arrangements are pending with Delta Funeral Directors.

 ALESSANDRA ARELLANO, 2, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen. A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, July 11, 2008, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, with burial at Buena Vista Burial Park.
