Horse Racing Capsules: Hard Mystery wins the Biogio's Rose Stakes
NEW YORK (AP) — Hard Mystery beat Bourbonstreetgirl, the 4-5 favorite, by 2 3/4 lengths Thursday in the $75,000 Biogio's Rose Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct.
Ramon Dominguez was aboard for trainer George Weaver as Hard Mystery scooted up the rail at the top of the stretch for her second win in five starts. The 5-1 shot easily got the jump on Bourbonstreetgirl, who rallied widest of all. The time was 1:45.14 for the one mile, 70 yards.
Hard Mystery paid $13.40, $4 and $2.60. Bourbonstreetgirl returned $2.70 and $2.10, while Love Contract paid $2.30 to show.
Meltarib wins at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Meltarib defeated Arrivederci Caro by a head to win the $59,050 Hotel California Purse for California-bred or sired fillies and mares on Thursday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, Meltarib covered one mile on turf in 1:34.97 and paid $6.40, $3.80 and $2.60 as the 2-1 favorite in her ninth career start. Arrivederci Caro returned $7.40 and $4.60, while Ruffled Feathers paid $3.60 to show.
The victory, worth $34,800, increased Meltarib's career earnings to $117,320.
