Do not build more roads
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Editor:
Looking back, say a decade from now, much of the world will see huge changes in transportation and energy use were made - some forced by the market, some by speculation, some by regard for the planet and future generations of life - all life, plant and animal.
So what does Cameron County do to contribute to this change? Its officials dream up the West Loop toll road or perhaps a regular highway once the railroad from the B&M Bridge to Olmito is relocated.
Tear up those plans!
Draw new ones for a biking, hiking, walking and nature trail!
Do not become an ill footnote in Cameron County history that states with gas above $4 a gallon, with people finally learning to share rides and leaving early on existing - and adequate - roads, county officials cut a road through beautiful scrub land, bushes, trees, vistas, waters and neighborhoods.
Do not build the West Loop toll road!
Do not build anymore roads!
And just as the federal government is placing the wall in Texas, with millions of South Texans opposed to its actual and symbolic significance, Cameron County officials plan to place the West Loop toll road or another road right in nature and neighborhoods, acting just like federal bureaucrats - sharp suits and haughty mannerisms.

Appreciation for Patron of the Arts
Editor:
Thank-you to Uzziel Guzman, associate director of the UTB-TSC Patron of the Arts Series for the five summer concerts. What a terrific idea, and I really appreciate all the extra practices to offer those performances free to all of us. We heard solos, ensembles, strings, winds, brass, piano and the new harpsichord.
I especially enjoyed the comments about the music that educated us about the music and the composer.
We are looking forward to the fall lineup and a wonderful series of community concerts again.
