New inspection fees under consideration by county

Cameron County Commissioners Court today will consider setting numerous inspection, testing and permit fees and increasing some fees already in place under the Fire Marshal Service.

County Emergency Management Director Humberto Barrera Jr. is slated to appear before the court at a special meeting at 9 a.m. at the Cameron County Courthouse known as the Dancy Building, 1100 E. Monroe St., to present the proposal.

The fees for the inspection of day care facilities and foster homes would increase from $40 to $50.

New fees would be implemented as follows: for fire hydrant flow test, $40; fire safety inspection of apartments, condominiums, hotels and motels, $100; and fire safety inspection of other businesses, $50.

The re-inspection fee for any of the above would be increased from $20 to $25.

The plan review fee for business construction and remodeling, new fire alarm system, new sprinkler system, and standpipe system would increase from $50 to $60.

A $25 fee is proposed for permits for the outdoor burning of natural vegetation. The fee would cover a two-week period.

The fee for the mandatory and annual inspection or test of new sprinkler system activation from one to 200 heads would increase from $50 to $100 and a new fee of $25 would be required for special events, including cooking and food stands.
