Houston mayor's staff boast on Facebook of police chopper ride

HOUSTON (AP) — New Houston Mayor Annise Parker has grounded staffers who tagged along on some police helicopter flights.

Parker, who took office in January, said she was not aware that some aides rode in the police chopper until contacted by KPRC-TV.

Parker says she wants to make sure such trips are for orientation on regularly scheduled flights with no impact on patrols or officers. Parker says she's "not going to have frivolous flights."

Staffer Veronica Mosley posted aerial pictures on her Facebook page saying: "working for the mayor's office has its perks."

Mosley declined comment. The mayor says the Facebook items have been removed and she has talked to Mosley.

Police records indicate at least seven mayor's office employees have flown since Feb. 20. Some staffers listed reasons for the ride as "mayor's office" or "boss wanted me to."
