Horse Racing Capsules: Rachel Alexandra, foal taken to hospital
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A spokeswoman says Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, and her newborn colt have been taken to an equine clinic for pain management related to the birth.
Spokeswoman Caroline Shaw said in an email Friday that Rachel Alexandra and the colt are expected to return to Stonestreet Farm in a couple of days, barring unforeseen issues.
They were taken to Rood and Riddle Equine Clinic in Lexington "as a precautionary measure," the email said.
The 6-year-old Rachel Alexandra is owned by Barbara Banke, who is also majority owner of Curlin, the 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year and sire of the foal born Sunday.
Hog's Hollow wins Santa Anita feature
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Hog's Hollow won the $60,000 Highway 61 Purse at Santa Anita on Friday by 3 3/4 lengths.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Hog's Hollow ran 1 1-4 miles on the turf in 2:01.27 and paid $14.60, $5.80 and $2.80 at 6-1 odds. Highway Bandit returned $11.40 and $4.60, while Dynamic Host was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $2.20 to show.
The victory, worth $36,000, increased Hog's Hollow's career earnings to $166,050, with three wins in 21 starts.
Dangerous Lad wins Big A feature
NEW YORK (AP) — Dangerous Lad, the 3-2 favorite, beat Personal Assistant by 4¼ lengths on Friday in the $51,000 allowance feature for 3-year-olds at muddy Aqueduct.
The gelding, trained by John Terranova II and ridden by apprentice Irad Ortiz Jr., won for the second time in three starts. The time was 1:12.38 for the six furlongs on the fast track.
Dangerous Lad paid $5, $3.20 and $2.60. Personal Assistant returned $4 and $2.50 while Dan's Gold paid $3.40 to show.
