National Guard helps evacuate Santa Rosa residents
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SANTA ROSA - National Guard troops helped evacuate some residents out of flooded homes Friday, an official said.
Authorities returned to town after residents refused to leave their homes Thursday, said Johnny Cavazos, Cameron County's emergency management coordinator.
"We do have people who are under water," Cavazos said. "Yesterday, we went over there and a lot of people refused to leave. Some of those people were calling, asking for help to leave their homes."
Homes on the outskirts of town remained flooded, Police Chief J.M. Gonzalez said.
"We've got several sections of town still flooded with one to two feet of water," he said. "It's standing water, so it's not moving fast."
