Teen pleads guilty to drunk-driving deaths
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDINBURG - A teen pleaded guilty to his role in the deaths of two girls who died after he flipped his pickup truck while driving drunk.
Armando Hernandez, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Abby De Anda and Nedra Rodriguez in February 2006. He faces as many as 40 years in prison. The two girls were standout basketball players at Hidalgo High School.
They, Hernandez and two other teens were returning from a party celebrating the girl's basketball team's victory over Progreso High School when Hernandez's Ford Ranger crashed. The girls were ejected from the truck. Nedra died instantly. Abby died a few days later.
Hernandez also faces two intoxication assault and aggravated assault charges. Those will most likely be dropped at his Sept. 27 sentencing.
