Man arrested for indecency with child

A Brownsville man is accused of inappropriately touching a 9-year-old girl who met him at a home when running an errand for her grandmother, according to court documents.

Jose Antonio Montiel, 63, is charged with indecency with a child in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred late January.

The girl's grandmother sent her to a nearby residence in Brownsville to drop off materials to be made into curtains, the documents state.

About 10 minutes later, the girl came back screaming that a man touched her and tried to take her into his room, according to court documents.

The affidavit alleges that Montiel encountered the girl at the residence, touched her and told her she was his girlfriend.

The girl's grandparents reported the incident to police, and she was interviewed at victim's advocacy center Monica's House in Brownsville.

Montiel was arrested Friday, jail records show.
