Fire strikes Harlingen bar

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Five Harlingen Fire Department fire engines and two other HFD vehicles were dispatched to the Hop Shop, 923 S. Seventh Street (at Commerce Street) at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

HFD Capt. John Renneker said investigators found the fire was started by an electrical problem near the rafters at the back of the building. No injuries were reported and damage was minimal.

Owners were working in the bar, but it was not open for business at the time, Renneker said.
