Dolphin rescued last month has died
The 7-foot dolphin found stranded on South Padre Island last month has died.
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network reported on its website that Bo Jingles passed away suddenly on Jan. 6. The agency reports Bo Jingles was very sick and was being treated for pneumonia. However, it states with the dolphin’s sudden passing there were likely contributing factors.
Fishermen found the young dolphin in weak condition on Dec. 21 near Beach Access No. 6 at the Island.
It was first thought that Bo Jingles suffered superficial wounds from a shark bite, but the injuries turned out to be more severe, officials said.
The dolphin was believed to be between 1 and 2 years old.
Bo Jingles was being treated at the TMMSN’s Galveston rehabilitation facility. It had previously been cared for at the Texas State Aquarium’s Sea Lab facility in Corpus Christi.
