Dog bites toddler, banned from city
A woman whose dog bit a toddler can keep the dog but has to find a place for the animal outside city limits, said Robert Dippong, supervisor of the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center.
The center took custody of the dog of Esmeralda Cantu, 28, of Brownsville, after it bit a 2-year-old in the face last week. The toddler wandered into Cantu’s yard on D Street and reportedly tried to hug the dog, Dippong said.
The dog, a collie mix, bit the girl in the face. She will likely have to undergo facial reconstructive surgery, Dippong said.
Cantu was cited by the city and is set to appear in court Oct. 11.
