Top 3 issues:

1. Street repairs and maintenance: As a city commissioner, it is my goal to ensure that a street repair and maintenance program be made part of a city master plan. We need to identify problem areas, prioritize according to need and implement a repair and maintenance program city wide. This program should ensure that proper grading and sealants are used to increase the life of the roadway. The repair and maintenance program should be published to allow residents to see that we are seeking to address this problem city wide in a fair and equitable way.

2. Police and emergency services: Furthermore, police and emergency services need to be upgraded and sustained. We need to continue to set aside funding for police and emergency services in the form of manpower and equipment. As our city expands, we must provide adequate services to our residents. This means enough police officers, patrol units, firemen and ambulances to keep up with the entire city, not just select parts.

3. Economic development: Economic development is the key to our continued success. We have to bring money into our community. In business, the only way to keep operating is to make more money. As a city, the way we do this is to look at the big picture. We all want a better life for ourselves and our families. The way we get there is by taking advantage of our location and our natural and human resources. It is imperative that we work with UTB/TSC, the Port of Brownsville, BISD and the other communities in our region, including South Padre Island, to promote tourism and our work force. If we do this, we will increase the standard of living for everyone.
