Brownsville isn't very pet-friendly
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Brownsville isn't very pet-friendly
Editor:
I recently became a dog owner and noticed Brownsville is not a very pet-friendly city. We have no dog park or a place where responsible dog owner can take a dog to exercise and meet other responsible dog owners and their dogs.
The city received hundreds of thousands of dollars to build a new animal shelter with all the commodities, but has yet to finish the job six years later. I have heard that the fenced area next to the animal shelter will be the dog park but it has yet to be finished.
I have contacted the animal shelter and asked when the public would be able to use this area. I was told that it would open next month. Could you do all the responsible dog owners a favor and find out when the city plans on opening this dog park and if there are any future plans for more areas like this? Thank you for your time!

Baseball team draws support
Editor:
Louie Vera wrote an awesome story about the softball team that advanced to Waco for the state tournament. Brownsville also sent the East Brownsville Minor Baseball team to compete in Waco after winning district in Weslaco and sectionals in San Antonio.
Our plan is to keep these young kids together and continue advancing each year for our ultimate goal in two years: to compete in the Little League World Series at Williamsport, Pa.
The future of Brownsville baseball looks bright. We were overwhelmed with community support when we qualified. East Brownsville serves some of the poorest families of Brownsville (south of Palm Boulevard). To my knowledge, this year was the first time Brownsville sent a minor team to Waco. We placed third in Waco.
