Who picked Atkinson for BorderFest honor?
Editor:
I have no idea of the process of selecting someone from Brownsville to represent Brownsville in BorderFest 2009. But in an advertisement in The Brownsville Herald on March 1 listed Charlie Atkinson's name.
Is this a joke? This man was arrested in 2008 and charted with driving while intoxicated, and he is probably the worst city commissioner is Brownsville's history.
I think the selection committee misread the invite and thought it to be "Walk of Shame." Then I would agree as Charlie Atkinson certainly has earned this title and position in the Rio Grande Valley's history books.

Help group honor Diversity Week
Editor:
The UTB Student Government Association will be holding Diversity Week to show the diversity of the many different cultures and such that make up the UTB campus. During this Diversity Week we will hold a Disability Awareness day. During this day members of the Student Government Association and UTB administration will be in wheelchairs the whole day so they can get a feel of what it is like to be a disabled UTB student.
We are in desperate need of wheelchairs to use for this event. We want wheelchairs we can borrow for the day or that can be donated to us. Those that are donated will be repaired by UTB students if needed and then donated to different charities in the community.
We need at least 30 used wheelchairs to use for this event. If you would like to help you can contact SGA President Erasmo Castro at lamasabactani @yahoo.com or (956) 572-1899. You can also contact me at (956) 233-9925.
Any help you can provide us will be greatly appreciated.
