Swerving SUV leaves broken Coke bottles on U.S. 281 in Edinburg
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDINBURG - An accident involving "a mountain" of several dozen empty Coca-Cola bottles continues to delay traffic along southbound Expressway 281 about 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The driver of a maroon SUV lost control of the vehicle just before 8 a.m. Monday just south of University Drive and Expressway 281. Several crates of empty Coke bottles scattered and shattered on the overpass.
"Part of the trailer load of coke bottles fell on the expressway and a mountain of glass went all over the place," Snider said. What caused the driver to swerve and spill his load remains unknown, Snider said.
Two lanes of traffic remain open along the expressway, but authorities blocked off the Schunior Street and University Drive onramps. Workers from the city of Edinburg and the Texas Department of Transportation continue to clean up the mess, which is expected to wrap up later this morning, Snider said.
There were no injuries in the accident, Snider said.
