Support planned spay-neuter clinic

The 29 dogs rescued recently from a house in Brownsville should not be returned to the owner. The owner was violating Brownsville’s animal ordinance that allows only three dogs per house.
Do not reward a person for violating the law by returning the dogs. The owner apparently does not know how to care for the animals or they would have received the proper medical care to cure their mange. The dogs are in good hands with Sabrina Rios at the new Brownsville animal care facility on FM 511.
Unfortunately, many of them will suffer the same fate as most of the animals at our shelter: they will be euthanized when no one adopts them.
Brownsville’s animal population is out of control, in part because we have no affordable spay and neuter program in place. Backyard breeders and puppy mills exist in our neighborhoods. These groups allow their animals to breed and exist in horrible conditions and sell the offspring at flea markets and off the street corners.
The new shelter has an area allocated for a spay and neuter clinic. Talk to your city officials and ask them to proceed with this clinic and help the citizens of Brownsville get their animals spayed and neutered to stop the killing of all the animals.
Do not buy animals from the flea markets or off the street. If you are ready to be responsible for a pet, adopt from the shelter and save a life.

Thanks for article about stray animals

Thank you for the article “Animals looking for a home.” It is a step forward in educating the public about caring for animals and supporting organizations like the Brownsville Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the local animal shelter.
I did find it a bit uninformative. I would have liked to know what the neighbors were saying. Why did they not get fined? A follow up on a successful adoption would help our current organizations get the publicity they deserve and inform people in Brownsville about the benefits of adopting from these organizations.
It makes me feel good to be a resident of a city that is sensitive to animal rights.
