Arath de la Torre, the young Mexican actor who has been named Mr. Amigo, arrives in Brownsville today to join in Charro Days festivities.
De la Torre, whom the Mr. Amigo Association visited in Mexico City to officially bestow the title, said he was honored that his work was able to play a role in strengthening ties between the U.S. and Mexico, and between Brownsville and Matamoros.
Eliseo Davila, president of the Mr. Amigo Association, said de la Torre was given a medal and received the title as the 47th Mr. Amigo on Feb. 1 at the Office of Exterior Relations in Mexico City.
“We had a great time in Mexico,” he said recently. “We got to meet Arath de la Torre, and we learned that he is truly an extraordinary person. He is very polite, and he is very honored to have received this title. We are all very happy to have chosen him as Mr. Amigo."
“Arath is going through the best time in his professional career and in a couple of days we will have him here with us in our own Valley,” he said.
Davila mentioned that during their stay in Mexico, the Mr. Amigo group visited the Televisa sets and met and mingled with the cast of “Una Familia con Suerte,” the telenovela in which de la Torre stars as the character Pancho Lopez. The last episode of the show will air Saturday.
“We will be hosting the Mr. Amigo festivities for Arath on Thursday, Feb. 23, and Friday, Feb. 24, at the Brownsville Events Center,” Davila said. “The festivities will include a gala dinner, typical Mexican costumes and much more. Tony Martinez, mayor of Brownsville, and other distinguished guests will be in attendance.”
